A moment from Pittsburgh
Hello friends,
Just sending out a quick update as to the conclusion of my Pittsburgh trip. The trip was, in a word: wonderful. On Wednesday, the 25th, I spent my day performing and exploring at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, and I was overwhelmed by the excitement, creativity, and positive energy that exploded from every person there. One moment stands out with particular clarity which I will relate here:
I was wondering through the creative art studio/workshop section of the museum. I observed one young girl, 3 or 4 years old, sitting in front of an easel, holding her wide paint brush in her right hand, holding her left hand out as if to steady herself while she explored the painting. She studied the sheet with an intensity that I’m sure could only be imitated by a masterful artist. Her brush darted to the paper intermittently, adding a splotch of color to her masterful stick figure. Her painting was that of a child just learning the art form, but the beauty that stays with me is the commitment to the learning/creative process and the encouragement of that process by eave soul in the building. What makes the museum such a wonderful location is not only the fantastic exhibits and activities it offers, but the philosophy of encouragement it embraces.
I thank the museum and everyone in it for allowing me the opportunity to perform and reminding me of the importance of support and encouragement. And I thank all of you for providing that support as Traveling Tales continues its journey. I look forward to seeing you soon on our travels.
Best,
Lethan
